Summary of Innovation

Thaung Enterprise is developing a solar-powered water pumping system aimed at improving the efficiency and sustainability of salt farming in Cambodia. This innovation replaces traditional fossil fuel-powered pumps with solar energy, reducing carbon emissions and cutting energy costs for local farmers. The system is projected to boost water pumping capacity by 30%, leading to a 25% increase in salt production. Initially targeting 50 farmers in the Kampot region, this community-owned solar solution will serve as a model for broader adoption across other salt farming areas. Funding will support the design, prototyping, installation, testing, and training at select salt farms, enhancing the sustainability of salt farming practices.

In the coming six months, Thaung Enterprise will empower 50 salt farmers in Kampot with solar-powered water pumping systems, promoting climate-resilient salt farming practices to protect marine ecosystems. Over the next two years, the Enterprise envisions transforming the salt farming industry in Kampot-Kep into a climateresilient, carbon-neutral sector, attracting ecotourists, supporting over 200 farmers and safeguarding 4,700 hectares of salt farm land and marine biodiversity from climate risks through scaled solar-powered irrigation solutions.
