Summary of Innovation

The Mangrove Restoration Project, led by Green Brunei, aims to address pressing environmental challenges in Brunei Darussalam by restoring degraded mangrove ecosystems along the country’s coastline. Through ABIC supports, the project will plant 500 mangrove seedlings, acting as natural barriers to protect against coastal erosion and flooding, while also enhancing biodiversity. The project is deeply rooted in community engagement, involving local residents, schools, volunteers, and NGOs in conservation efforts. Through education and collaboration with local experts, the initiative promotes sustainable practices and raises awareness about the critical role of mangroves in maintaining coastal ecosystems.

In the next six months, Green Brunei will plant 500 mangrove trees within the first six months, ensuring the active participation of local communities. Over the next two years, the project envisions developing a business model that supports the expansion of restoration efforts through carbon absorption initiatives and ecotourism activities. This approach will not only contribute to ecological resilience but also foster sustainable livelihoods and economic opportunities for local communities.
