Awarded Amount: $38,000

Summary of Innovation

Fatih Aquaculture is developing a Floating Sea-Based Hatchery System to address fingerling production challenges in Brunei Darussalam. This innovative solution breeds and grows fingerlings directly in their natural ocean habitat, reducing mortality rates caused by environmental adaptation and transportation, common in land-based hatcheries. The system leverages solar PV to minimize carbon emissions and support sustainable aquaculture.

By offering locally produced fingerlings at 20-30% lower costs, the hatchery will reduce dependence on imports, fostering the growth of Brunei’s domestic aquaculture industry. The ABIC funding will support equipment procurement, structure construction, system testing, and the introduction of broodstock and fingerlings, ensuring a smooth start to operations.

In the first six months, the project aims to successfully deploy the hatchery prototype and begin producing its own fish fingerlings. Over the next two years, the goal is to stabilize and expand production to meet local demand, positioning Fatih Aquaculture as a key player in Brunei’s sustainable aquaculture industry.
